If you need an employment lawyer, or have a legal dispute in your business or personal life, Crane & Staples can help.
As experienced solicitors and advocates working on your behalf we will make any negotiation on your behalf as painless and worry-free as possible.
Employment law and rights are often considered a minefield for employers and confusing for employees because of frequent changes. Up-to-date advice from our employment lawyers will help you understand your legal obligations as an employer or rights as an employee.
Legal disputes can be stressful and time consuming, particularly in areas such as landlord and tenant disputes, claims about inheritance property disputes or bankruptcy.
We pride ourselves on our friendly, approachable way of working – one that our established clients have come to appreciate and find very reassuring.
The team is headed by Michael Scutt supported by Colin Bosman. Both are very experienced at acting for claimants and defendants in the High Court and County Courts. Colin is a Deputy District Judge. Michael is a member of the Employment Lawyers’ Association.
Litigation is the process of taking a case through court. If you are involved in a legal dispute – as an individual or representing a business, our team will help you. We recommend that you involve us as early as you can, so that we can assist in bringing a speedy resolution as cost-effectively as possible.
Examples of legal disputes include:
• Commercial disputes
• Breach of contract
• Landlord and tenant disputes (both commercial and residential property)
• Company and partnership disputes
• Professional negligence
• Claims about inheritance and other disputes relating to wills or administration of estates
• Property disputes
• Bankruptcy or winding-up proceeding for creditors
• Road traffic offences
• Debt recovery
Many clients are often worried about the costs involved in litigation but sometimes people are covered for the cost of such actions in their household/car insurance policies. If you are not sure whether or not you are covered, please bring along your policy document with you to your initial consultation meeting where we will be able to advise you. If you are not insured we will discuss other possible ways of funding your case including conditional fee agreements i.e. a ‘no win no fee’ arrangement or whether you should obtain ‘After the Event Legal Insurance’. Eligibility will depend upon the particular facts of your case and we will be able to advise you on whether your case is appropriate for an agreement/policy.
Michael heads our Employment Law team here at Crane & Staples where we provide up-to-date employment law advice so that both employers and employees understand their rights. He is a member of the Employment Lawyers Association which keeps its members updated on changes in case law and statutes as they happen.
We advise on and draft employment contracts, policies and procedures to avoid potential litigation. We act in contentious matters on behalf of employers defending claims made by employees and on behalf of employees bringing claims in an Employment Tribunal against their employers. In tribunal cases we always advise you of the prospects of success, the likely compensation, the costs and the timescales involved.
Some of the many areas of employment law we deal with are:
• Unfair or wrongful dismissal
• Discrimination on grounds of gender, race, disability, age or religion or claims under the Equality Act 2010
• Compromise agreements
• Constructive dismissal including harrassment and victimisation
• Family friendly rights such as maternity or paternity rights
• Drafting Contracts of Employment and Employment handbooks
