Crane and Staples are again supporting this year’s Dementia Awareness Week, 15 – 21 May, and it is hoped that it will encourage people who are worried about dementia to confront their worries by addressing dementia directly and going to Alzheimer’s Society for information and support.
Dementia can be scary and many people don’t know where to turn, but there are many support groups, information and guidance that can be provided if you are affected or know of anyone who may need support for a loved one.
My colleague Samantha and I both recently attended a Dementia Friends information session in Hertford where we learnt more about what it’s like to live with dementia.
Armed with that information will allow us to turn that understanding into action.
Being a Dementia Friend is about learning more about dementia and the small ways we can help. This can be just telling our colleagues about dementia and changing how we deal with clients visiting our office or when we go out to see them, to simply visiting someone we know living with dementia or supporting their family when they need it.
A simple change can make a big difference and we are proud to become a “friend” as well as supporting Alzheimer’s Society, not only during their Dementia Awareness Week campaign, but every day.
