Attia Hussain
I joined the Family team at Crane & Staples in July 2013 and became a Senior Associate in April 2018.
I trained and have specialised in Family and Children Law since 2008.
In order to offer my clients continuity of representation, both in the office and at Court, I usually undertake the advocacy in the cases that I handle.
I act for parents, relatives, foster carers, adopters, children and intervenors, when concerns are raised by Social Services, including complex issues regarding Non Accidental Injury, physical, emotional and sexual abuse. I often represent children via their Children’s Guardian or directly, in different counties including Hertfordshire, Bedfordshire, Surrey, Essex and the London area.
My expertise covers a whole spectrum of children matters.
Care Proceedings, including:
- Fact Finding Hearings (for all parties and intervenors)
- Special Guardianship
- Adoption
- Deprivation of liberty (for children) including Secure Accommodation
- Appeals generally
Private Children Law
- Child Arrangements, including Fact Finding Hearing
- Specific Issue (including relocation of children abroad)
- Prohibited Steps
- Step-parent adoption
- Parental Responsibility
Family Law
- Injunctive proceedings
- Non Molestation and Occupation Orders
- Transfer of Tenancy
Memberships and Positions Held
In 2012, I was accredited by the Law Society as a member of the Law Society Children Panel, demonstrating my expertise in children law.
In 2017, I was granted Higher Rights of Audience (Civil Proceedings) and this allows me to represent my clients as a Solicitor-Advocate in the courts of England and Wales.
I was delighted to have been elected as President of the Hertfordshire Law Society for 2018-2019. I now serve as the Immediate Past President.
A video of my after-dinner speech at the Hertfordshire Law Society Annual Dinner in 2018 can be found below.
I also serve on the Local Family Justice Board Council as the representative for the Hertfordshire Law Society. I am committed to helping improve the performance of the family justice system and to ensure the best possible outcomes for children who come into contact with it.
In 2019, I was a finalist in the Women in Law, 100 Years category at the national Asian Legal Awards.
Outside the office
I have skydived from 5,000ft to raise funds for the London Legal Support Trust which helps fund advice centres to help the poorest and most vulnerable people in our communities. I take part in charity Legal Walks and along with my colleagues I bake yearly for the Great Legal Bake off.
I enjoy travelling, body combat and supporting various charitable causes by committing my time and energy to raising awareness and funds.
