The Government is expected to introduce an Immigration Bill in 2015 requiring all UK private landlords to carry out a screening process on their potential tenants.
Photo identity such as passports or driving licences will be required for tenants, and landlords will have to retain copies for 12 months as proof that the screening process has been completed.
The aim is to ensure that all tenants have permission to reside in the country.
