Last Thursday, members of the legal profession across Hertfordshire gathered at The Peahen in St. Albans to network over drinks and enjoy a festive buffet. It was the first event which Hertfordshire Junior Lawyers and Hertfordshire Law Society had hosted jointly.

The occasion also marked Attia Hussain’s final event as President of Hertfordshire Law Society, before Judith Gower of Hertfordshire County Council takes over the role in the New Year.

Hertfordshire Law Society, which is one of the oldest Law Societies in the country, represents the views of solicitors across the county. When Attia, a Children Law Solicitor at Crane & Staples, was elected as President last year, she made history by becoming the youngest and first Asian President of the Society.

She has worked tirelessly over the past year organising social and training events, and launching the Society’s Twitter account: @HertsLawSoc to make accessibility and engaging with the Society much easier.

The event was also an opportunity for members of The Hertfordshire Junior Lawyers to meet their new committee which took over in October this year.

Elizabeth Russell, a Solicitor in the Employment & Dispute Resolution department at Crane & Staples and also Joint Chair of The Hertfordshire Junior Lawyers, commented:

I am delighted that our first event with Hertfordshire Law Society was such a success and on behalf of both committees, I would like to take the opportunity to thank everyone who attended. The evening would not have been possible had it not been for New Court Chambers, who kindly sponsored the event.”

“We are very fortunate to have such an active Law Society and JLD. Attia and I were very keen to bring the most junior and senior members of the legal profession together at one event and we could not have hoped for a better turnout. I am looking forward to working closely with Hertfordshire Law Society over the next year and planning future events”.

Hopefully this will be the first of many events bringing the profession in Hertfordshire together.
